Depressed water supply sources due to low rainfall in Mayarí

río guayaboThe low rainfall recorded in Mayarí during the last few months has had a negative impact on natural water sources, such as rivers and subway streams.

Lualdy Figueredo García, a specialist in water resources management in the municipalities of Mayarí and Cueto, assures that to date the rainfall registered only represents 40 percent of the historical average, a fact that influences the normal supply of the liquid to the population centers.

Figueredo García, emphasizes that the scarcity of rainfall keeps depressed the waters of rivers and subway sources, so it is necessary to increase the saving of this liquid and avoid contamination.

The expert clarifies that, nevertheless, today the state of the reservoirs is favorable and the Mayarí dam is at 98 percent of its capacity, while Nipe exceeds 94 percent.
