Mayari's arbovirosis situation described as complex

Mosquito aedes aegyptiWith more than 1,200 outbreaks of Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes detected so far in 2021 and 51 patients with suspected dengue fever, the municipality of Mayari presents a complex situation in the fight against arbovirosis, said Dr. Yanet Tamayo Laurencio, director of hygiene and epidemiology in the territory.

When evaluating the situation in the most impacted communities, Tamayo Laurencio emphasized the health area of Guaro, where the infestation rate is 7.55%, one of the highest today in the province of Holguin.

Eleven Popular Councils have negative incidences with mosquito outbreaks and so far 27 Mayariceros have been confirmed with dengue fever, although she stressed that not all of them go to the hospitals when the symptoms appear, said the expert.

The specialist underlined that the municipality maintains 59 mosquito breeding sites active in the current work cycle, which started last November 1st, while 22 of them are expected to be blocked in the next hours.

Among the areas where it is necessary to increase the integral action, Guatemala and the community of Cosme Batey stand out, places where there is a high focal point and low attendance to the medical corps due to fever reports.

When updating about the COVID-19 in the municipality, the director of hygiene and epidemiology in Mayari, said that in the last hours two new people were diagnosed positive to this disease.

The patients have their residence address in the community of Monteverde and are a woman and a man, 30 and 38 years old respectively, contacts of confirmed cases.
