Canal de desvíoAt 6:55 a.m. this Sunday morning, the workers of the Engineering Works Construction Company No. 16 completed the lining of the diversion channel in the construction of the Levisa Dam, which closes the first stage in the execution of this work.

The works always had the weight of productive tension and quality, because it was necessary to take advantage of the so-called dry period and change the course of the river since January 19, said Carlos Luis Abreu Junto, director of that work force.

The lining of the diversion channel, in the only reservoir under construction in Cuba today, was completed ten days ahead of schedule and was preceded by the construction of the pre-towage and cofferdam for the diversion of the Levisa River.

Abreu Junto said that the more than 400 workers working on this project will now start the second phase, which includes the execution of the left bank of the dam in a period of 18 months.

The executive emphasized that the completion of the works was a commitment with Inés María Chapman Waugh, Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, in salute to the historic generation of the Revolution.

Located more than 13 kilometers southeast of the city of Levisa, the reservoir is part of the East-West Transfer and will have a capacity of more than 6 million cubic meters, while serving as a connecting vessel to the Mayarí dam, to which it will transfer up to 80 million cubic meters through an 18-kilometer tunnel.
